St. Thomas More Catholic School is a vibrant, faith-filled community that works together to live out our mission to “Know, Love and Serve God.”
Pope Francis proclaimed “let us journey together” as Catholic education holds a three-fold mission of message, community and service. This mission is achieved by proclaiming God’s message of salvation, by respecting the dignity of all members of our global community and by serving the needs of others.
At St. Thomas More, we strive to teach the whole child; spiritually, physically, academically, and socially. We promote academic excellence and leadership in every student by providing challenging, Christ-centered curriculum and ongoing service opportunities. Through our dedicated faculty, a strong parish community and engaged families, St. Thomas More graduates are equipped to be lifelong learners and leaders living out the Gospel message.
School History
Our history is rich and robust, dating back to 1957 when Bishop Bernard J. Topel established a new parish in North Spokane, St. Thomas More. In March 1962, school construction got underway and was ready for the first students that fall. Initially, St. Thomas More School consisted of grades 5 through 8, with the Dominican Sisters as the first faculty. Within a decade, largely due to Spokane’s North Side growing rapidly, St. Thomas More grew into a full-fledged parish.
n 1987, the new church was completed and the original church building became available for use to the school and parish community. Some remodeling was completed that enabled a gym, storage, a library and a music room to be housed in the gymnasium building. In 1997, that library was then converted to a classroom for welcoming our first Kindergarten students. Over the past decades an Extended Care program was added to the school’s list of offerings as well as a Preschool Program. The school continues to thrive as a faith-filled vibrant community living out its mission to “know, love and serve God.”
