STEM is a curriculum based on educating students in four specific disciplines – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. St. Thomas More has incorporated our Catholic identity into our science lessons and created Catholic plus STEM (or C+STEM). Our PK-8 program is designed to empower students to intellectually adapt to a constantly changing workplace and world by exciting their learning through experiential and problem-solving strategies. The Catholic component of this program embraces global awareness of the world and of the student as a citizen of the world.
In Pope Francis' inspiring Encyclical Letter, Laudato Si' (Be Praised) published in 2015, he urges us to care for our natural environment and all people. Our C+STEM program provides a focus for students to show appreciation, care and reverence for God’s creation.
The St. Thomas More School STEM program includes a fully equipped science lab, an outdoor vegetable garden, beehive and greenhouse with an aquaponics system that raises fish and vegetables. Food grown in our school garden and greenhouse is used for the St. Vincent de Paul ministry and for Catholic Charities. Our students receive hands-on robotic, rocketry and bio-med experiences while real-world problem solving inventions that they discern and create.
